Averse to Christmas

I cannot think of anything more christmassy than verse;
with care, concern and effort you get love and dove and hearse.
Well, maybe hearse is worse than curse; but let's examine joy.
That's so much better; letter, sweater, boxes, soxes, cuddly toy.
Singing carols, rolled out barrels, lots of fun, everyone...
coughs and sneezes, chesty wheezes, herpes kissing, flies undone,
drunken antics, parents frantic, children screaming, grandad dreaming.
Turkey, gravy, tree-top fairy, candles glowing, cattle lowing
(that's a cracker, though a cliche), midnight mass, nativity ass.
Old friend's greeting, table seating, party hats and cabbage gas.
OK, I forced it! Force meat, minced meat, mulled wines, good times,
Hell, it's Christmas (can one say that?) Sure you can, but make it rhyme.

I believe "Christmassy" or the essence of Christmas has been captured in Pumpkin Spice, possibly in a cloying variation of the flavor if you're pessimistic.
