It is simply recasting the Palestinians in the role of the Israelites when they were in Egypt before the Exodus (you may have not read the Bible, but surely you saw the movie?). The Israelites wanted to go (or at least Moses wanted them to go) to the "promised land", the place for their new country. The Palestinians are already on the land, they just want to be recognized as a country, which France just recently said that they will do. After the way this last altercation turned out I think many countries have moved towards the Palestinians side of things, especially as the Prime Minster Netanyahu has almost a sadistic desire to abuse them. Anyway, I thought a little irony was needed.
