Paul,

hill of skulls=Golgotha
obese worm=serpent in the garden of Eden
rag trade=clothes worn by Adam and Eve after they ate of the fruit and became aware of their nakedness.
charcoaled words=the serpent's "oily" words of temptation.
thumbs for gardening+green thumbs, ability to make tings grow.

So Christ had to die on Golgotha (the eyes of the skull are suppose to be the entrance to hell), to overturn the original sin, break the chains of death in hell, and bring about salvation. All things known to most "Christians"* as it is a core belief of Christianity. So why go out of your way to make something obscure that is already well known?
Am I missing something?

*there are those who spout the dogma, but fail to follow Christ's example in terms of living, in fact, much more of the first and few of the latter.
How long after picking up the brush, the first masterpiece?

The goal is not to obfuscate that which is clear, but make clear that which isn't.
