My name is Scott and I am an indie iOS developer. I want to develop an iPad app that provides an interface to write poetry.
I would love to hear your thoughts on what features you would like to see in an iPad poetry writing app.
Thanks!
Scott
I think my colleagues have gone mad. There is but one question. Why?
Any app that "interfaces" also "interposes" and that is the very last thing a poet needs. I cannot but think that this is destined to fail... not because the app will fail to do what it is programmed to do, but precisely because it does not do what the poet does.
Best,
tectak
I actually forgot to mention one thing in my original post - this app with be social. The answer to your question is the same reason why joined this forum - to connect and share. You want to share your work and discuss it.
Of course, nothing compares to face to face interaction and I in no way intend to mimic the kind dynamic that is present in a poetry slam. But poetry slams don't happen everyday, and it may be hard to hear poems face to face written by people outside your geographical area. When used correctly, technology has the power to connect people on a much larger scale.
I actually want to thank you because you made me think critically about this project. Now that I think of it, the social aspect is what will make this app succeed. All you need to write good poetry is a pad and paper, and therefore a simple textview will suffice. I will focus my energy on enhancing the social experience.
