Every day the heart is broken
and a little bit of smile slips down to patch it up
because smiles are easy,
renewable,
simple to
manufacture.

Hearts patched with plastic smiles
harden, grow inward,
become something other.

How do you melt a plastic heart?

Well, that Desiderata poem by Ehrmann seems like poison. I could see this piece spawning a lot of Eco criticism.
