It's possible to look at life far too seriously…
death, too; one follows from the other.
Sometimes the scream in the night is you.
You startle to find nothing
except heat in your creases and sweat in your cracks;
tachycardia reducing as you wake.
Night time is the worst time. Someone who thinks he's you
is doing all your thinking; but sooner than you'd like,
the Sandman draws you under to conjoin.
It's not a productive union because in your waking hours,
your thinking wanders like a man asleep;
you open up your mouth, to say how bad you feel
and the nightmare, nothingness, is a vacuum in your throat…
You do not choke, but you cannot hear your voice.
It will happen, sooner or later, to us all.
So you analyse your state of mind; the conclusion that you reach
will be whatever makes you happiest.

for you can never tell
when life ended, or say when death began.
