I don't have the brain power to hash through this at the moment, and my publisher would kill me if I tried, but I do have two comments. This line:
"It was then that Gregory Samson stood up, moving his bulk the way you’d carry loaded bags"
this line is great on several levels. Of course it is a very good description, but second Samson is a loaded bag, in two ways, he has money, and he carries a gun.
The second comment you write yourself.
"if they do they’ll see it as ironic, or “meta”, a clever piece of satire"
It's ambiguous and almost believable that what you're writing is really happening, but then you say, nah, that's crazy. True, but there is really nothing stopping it from actually being real...is there?
