If you were going to be paid they would have discussed it up front.
I've written for online pubs in the past. My advice would to find a specific area of interest. Find thirty or forty tweeters, especially those who publish pictures (as you can be sure they are genuine) and who are in the loop of whatever it is your are writing about, find two or three local press agencies (foreign language news agencies are ideal as 'journalists' are generally too lazy to use google translate, and you can get scoops easily), and join a few relevant forums. Then cut and paste the information into a story, with a bit of padding to fill out the word quota.
Only ever look at the MSM to see what they are writing about, and never write about or react to any of it. These pubs are generally stringers and only want stories and angles that they can sell on - whatever they might say in public.
If you stick to one subject, and work hard enough, and have a bit of luck, you will start to make money - maybe even serious money.
