Every website in China is subject to the Chinese censorship laws, including Baidu.

Google is between a rock and a hard place on this.
If they comply with Chinese law, they are subjected to criticism in the rest of the world.
If they don't comply, and lift the censorship, then they are in violation of the Chinese laws.

i agree, they are. but in an instance like this does it matter.
personally i think they should say okay we'll leave. till you get your act together. sometimes the criticism of the world can be too much a pressure to endure.
