Interpretation...is it valid critique?

I would hardly think that it's necessary to provide an in depth "interpretation" of the poem, but covering the lines you commented on hardly seems moot. How can you say a particular word doesn't work, and not give an explanation as to why, and expect the poet to gain anything from it?

Actually, I do agree with that and I think I usually do that unless I think it is obvious.
