I think you've got to read/listen/take in whatever art you want to create, and get an understanding of the type of stuff you really enjoy. At the same time, take the time and effort to put pen to page, and work. Anything you write that you like, save and always try and build on any idea you enjoy. As long as you're making stuff that you genuinely like, it's worth it.
