same sex marriage

does the church have copyright on the word "marriage"?

do gay people need to be able to use "marriage" in order to be validated?

i'm okay with gays being "married" but is the word the thing they want or is it the recognition of being equal partners who get the same benefits as heterosexual partners. many of whom are not married, who have not had a marriage. i was never married yet i was classed as a common law husband, this meant i had all the benifits of a married man. i claimed tax for my partner and kids etc.

It doesn't matter whether homosexuals want it or not, all people should have equal rights.
