Also, I can't speak for everyone, but I'm not a qualified teacher and have no (or at least very little) experience of teaching anyone anything. This is, after all, an amateur poetry site, where hobbyists meet to share, discuss and critique their creations, or at least that's how I see it, so a mentoring system sounds very rigid and institutional, like this is a school. This is all JMHO, of course.personally i'm not sure it's about being a teach as much as it is about being a helper. doing one to one what we do in the serious workshop, be it putting a poem up or giving feedback. what i think could be good about it is the open process that would actually help others with giving critique.
That said, if someone is interested in being mentored and another person wants to mentor them, I see no problem at all with that.

This is all JMHO, of course.yes, the mentoring idea seems the least popular. I am not even sure it would be possible to recreate here, as they do have a certain rigid discipline over there. One thing I do know is that sites succeed when they get an active involved member base that participates in more than just posting poems and comments. Sites fail when they lock members into that. People thrive on interaction. I want this site to succeed so I am willing to explore avenues that force some of our peripheral members to take some ownership of the site.

after breakfast i'll sort out some prefix's out. so that a mentoring thread starts with Mentoring: i'll take part on either side of the fence. i'd suggest you do a dry run, i'll help if it helps set the ball rolling. if you put the rules up in a sticky in the milo thread i'll start it off. the time for action is upon us

Why not mentor those working on the haiku?
plus and this is a biggy....i can't commit the time i suspect is needed for such an endeavour.
it's three lines long
though i wouldn't dismiss it out of hand
