There was a time when Sun and Moon were brothers,
when day and night twined scuppers through the sky,
when moon and sea were sworn eternal lovers.
Sea swallowed Moon in ripply, multiply;
Moon coolly lit up sea as his reply.
One day, Sea journeyed far, Sun met her there
and braided golden sunlight through her hair.
When Moon saw this he cried out "Treachery!"
and fled around the Earth in his despair.
Today, his distant sulk reflects from Sea.

Unhappy queen why twist your hands with bother?
Do you remember, one poor miller's daughter
sent to the king, a marvel to behold -
her wondrous gift of spinning straw to gold?

He locked you in a shed with bales of hay,
a spinning wheel, he gave you just one day.
The only way your life would be paroled
would be to spend it spinning straw to gold.

Unhappy queen, do you remember laughter?
A mocking little man who came right after;
he took your burden for your deal untold
set right to work, spinning straw to gold.

As daylight came the king unlocked the door
and made to break your shackles from the floor.
What did he see? A marvel to behold -
his room of hay had been spun straight to gold.

Oh happy queen, the day that came right after
the king beguiled with riches to the rafter
You'd be his queen, a kingdom yours to hold
all for your gift of spinning straw to gold.

Just one year from that day your child was born
with hair of silk and skin as smooth as corn
A little man appeared as he foretold
and took your child for spinning straw to gold.

Unhappy queen you you shouldn't scorn the barter;
you gained a kingdom for your unknown daughter.
Before her birth, you knew she had been sold
for your fake gift of spinning straw to gold.

Wow I loved it Smile but why the sad ending? Wasn't the queen able to guess the name of the dwarf? (I read a version of the story which had a happy ending and the dwarf's name was Rumpelstiltskin)

I had written a about the sun and the moon sometime back, I thought I should share it today... will be back with a real fairy tale in a short while Smile

Solitary wanderer

The solitary moon, oh! how it longs
for the days bygone and forgotten songs.

Night after night it wanders alone
in pursuit of a love, long withered and gone.

Before there existed days and nights,
there used to be two ethereal lights.

Together they shone blithe and bright,
basking and bathing in each other's light.

But love and grief go hand in hand,
Good times are gone like water in sand.

The moon was shunned and sent away
to bide with the earth, night and day.

It could never see its love again,
and wanders every night in pain...
