couldn’t have know that as she slipped
into the light, cameras and cathodes would take a breath,
caress beneath, her now transparent dress.
A million faces pressed to the screens,
whispered words in bedroom dreams.
Men of cloth knelt down in prayer,
then uttered words they’d never dare.
She flicked her hair then went along,
champagne bubbles burst on her tongue,
laughter’s plight,
held itself at night.
As we peered through hour and glass
she took her last, pain passed,
flag half mast.
Grotesque, undressed, bulbs still flashed.
I am moved by this poem about Marilyn. Beneath the transparent dress an exploited human being. Wonderfully descriptive writing, I might forgo "bubbles" S3l2. Enjoyed this sad homage to Norma Jean.
