When a woman tells a young man
“I don’t want to see your face again”
He’s likely to hear
“I want to sit on your face”
Now when I try to think
Of you sitting on my face, all that comes up
Is the memory that you don’t want to see my face again.
I try to think of just your face
But only see the scowl that’s replaced
The sunshine smile I fell in love with.
I try to think of moving on
Without you
But what is harder
Living a lifetime with another failure
Or fixing what is broken ?
The first stanza makes perfect sense. The next two seem confused. The whole thing seems confused. But that's probably the point.
When I was young I broke my mother’s Chinese lamp
I glued the thousand pieces back together
And she displayed it in the living room for all to see.
That was love.
Is there enough left in you to mend ?
You've younged yourself into a double youngative. But it's easy to know what you mean.--Who broke something in the relationship? you or the woman? Who needs to be mended, you or the woman? or both?
I try to think how this will end.
I think about it all the time
And can’t come up with a decent rhyme.
It's hard to think.
