A Simple Sort
#1
If I were raised a different sort
than I was raised to be
I'd race from the Atlantic
off to any sea I'd see.

When I was still a young man
I'd think a young mans thoughts.
I'd sleep beneath the freeways
in van and with guitar.

Now that I'm getting older
think of cities I have seen
Twenty dollar motels
Always seemed like home to me.

The ways that I have traveled
The roads I've found my feet
I dream about the bridges
from sea to shining sea.

But cemented in my body,
my veins that flow concrete.
Sailing I will go no more.
My Home's where I will be.

If I were raised a different sort
My Home I'd never see.
But I raised a simple sort,
a simple life for me.
