I also lie about little things -- not to stretch the truth; actually its often the opposite. I use it as a kind of conversational shorthand? When the truth is longwinded and complicated and irrelevant, sometimes its not worth it to give an accurate answer; it'll just be boring and kind of awkward. In those instances instead of telling the whole story (which no one cares about anyway) I'll just give a one-sentence response that hopefully is neutral enough, so nobody would bother to question it anymore .
