Elliott Smith played everything almost perfectly. Like his whole life was in the music, and that he's still alive, because his songs saw early death on the horizon. Kind of like John Keats. He had nothing to lose, so he gave everything. At least it feels that way. That we can know that songs aren't everything: there's just that much more behind each one.
