Okay, I've been reading this with interest - personally I would side with Assange because I really like the fact he shit-stirred with goverment files and whatnot, even though he is a dick

and the difference it made was what? someone is facing life imprisonment, whistleblowing has probably been put back 20 years, let's face it; who in the military is going to trust another assange with those type of leaked docs...if they can have access to them that is. if people thouight secrets were hidden before i can promise you that now they're hidden to the nth degree and probably a lot more than before. so what did assange do?

It doesn't really matter how actually useful anything Assange dug up was, the fact is, he dug it up and made it public. He isn't going to be the last of his kind. Whatever you want to say of him, it takes a lot of guts (or stupidity) to do something like that.

think of watergate, think of villachi papers. that was journalism because of it, and other stories investigative journalism will continue. (except in ecuador), assange didn't do a water gate, some one gave him stuff which he got paid for. he even claimed copyright on the files for god sake and tried to keep them hidded so they would be a fucking cash cow. he hasn't furthered any kind of journalism, he's done nothing but facilitate a mans imprisonment for life. what else did he do that made a difference? seriously, it seems that just printing stuff that doesn't make a difference should make someone great? and you're correct, he won't be the last of his kind, they'll always be someone round the next corner looking for the opportunity to make money out another mans freedom. was it worth the life of another? seriously was it? if not then why is he a hero?

I can only judge him based on his actions, which thus far I've always approved of. But the real importance of it is it means people are fighting for freedom of information and are finally starting to retaliate against corrupt government. It's a stepping stone.

Although I admit I don't understand why Ecuador is really getting involved. The president is very corrupt. But they do have some good policies as well as shite ones, much like every other government in the world. Censorship happens everywhere, even in countries which claim it doesn't c: Asides from that, it is definitely not okay for the UK to fuck with Ecuador over this.

not censorship like they have there. here's a thing, if assange had a gripe with ecuador and they had hold of him, would he have been under house arrest? or in some rat infested cell? and everyone including the UK know it's not okay to fuck with another embassy. they got a bit mouthy and threatened someone, everyones done the same thing (threaten someone knowing it something they could never carry out.) everyone and his dogs knows the place will never be invaded, but it's a goo way of getting people to support ecuador and bash the british what what.
