Ecuador's stance on freedom of press is summed up
uk politicians dropped a bollox, of that there's no doubt. they won't storm the embassy but where they dropped the bollox was inferring they would. now ecaudor have a voice in the world spouting all this freedom of the press and human rights stuff it so radically oppresses back home.
thinking about it, Ecuador is everything assange stands against (arguably ) as are russia who hosted his tv talk show. so why ask for asylum there, why not any number of other countries.....why not the australian embassy
his own embassy. why not the iranian embassy...probably not, even assange isn't that much of a moron. would australia exorcise the man to the usa or sweden? so my advice to the assange is...watch your mouth and your back, they don't do tags instead of bail in Ecuador
to abu's point. i'm sure they only have a few rooms of the building but even that is cash that could be better spent on less expensive premises, i bet harrods are happy of the crowds though
Quote:Corruption, inefficiency, and political influence have plagued the Ecuadorian judiciary for many years. In a referendum held in 2011, President Rafael Correa obtained a popular mandate for constitutional reforms that could significantly increase government powers to constrain media and influence the appointment and dismissal of judges.
Ecuador’s laws restrict freedom of expression, and government officials, including Correa, use these laws against his critics. Those involved in protests marred by violence may be prosecuted on inflated and inappropriate ‘terrorism’ charges.
Impunity for police abuses is widespread and perpetrators of murders often attributed to a “settling of accounts” between criminal gangs are rarely prosecuted and convicted.
