Eltonesque thunder
serenaded the meal
four non-mustachioed non-Mexicans
created an acoustic clutter
a mellow yet melodramatic
butchering of the blues
followed by the ubiquitous
"Besame Mucho"

your right foot played
tennis with a pair of delighted testicles
as a mundane tablecloth slid
pliable plastic against hard wood

the little fat bloke whispered
to a dropsy waiter
who bent to recover the silver
and verify the non-Mexican’s eye

“you are in love” he pointed out
laying down the fake
French accent with knives
we smiled the nod
Impatient to eat

after sex you stole my wallet
like the cheap hooker you were
