my view is this, if they're guilty so are google and yahooo owners, so are facebook owners.
it's like saying if you own a car park and some of the cars parked there are stolen cars, you get charged with aiding and abetting. totally mad.

http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/...uancy-jail

A 17-year old honor student was jailed and fined in Texas for missing too much school (in Texas, that's 10-days in six months). The judge completely ignored the extenuating circumstances: the girl is a breadwinner working two jobs, one full and one part-time, to financially support her siblings after they were all abandoned by their parents. She admits that because of it some mornings, she is too tired to make it to school on time; other days, she misses classes.

I don't know what the hell that judge is trying to punish Angry

in that instance she should be helped and applauded.

in the uk it's the parents who go to court if they're kids miss too much school.

all because this judge felt the need to play god she now has a criminal record? the judge should be flogged.

The law in Texas also states the parents are legally responsible for the child. The judge should not have been able to do that, but I think judges just making stuff up as they go happens frequently because no one will do anything. Of course the law is now changing. It appears debtors prison is making a comeback. After years of credit card companies making it easy to get a card, which they continued to raise the limit on until the person lacks the ability to pay, then they jack the interest rate way up and begin adding penalties. Now if you owe more than $10,000.00, they can sue you, garnish your wages and send yo0u to prison if you fail to pay. However if I loan someone some money and they don't pay it back, I am out my money for being foolish enough to loan it to them. My question is, why should companies have more protection under the law than individuals?

i think when credit card companies get people in that much debt it's them as should be sued. that said don't borrow what you can't pay pay.

would the problem with that scenario. (going to prison) be counter screwed by simply going bankrupt. or are they saying that's not an option...seems extremely suspicious. the lobbyists have a lot to answer for Angry

The are phasing out the ability to declare bankruptcy. Now it is just a reorganization, you still have to pay everything back. Pretty soon, if your married, they will be putting one spouse in prison, and making the other pay his/her way out. A small step from there to indentured servant. I think we are headed back to the feudal system. As resources dry up and cost more and more, people will no longer be able to afford it, and have to sell themselves into slavery, of course at the start they will call it something different, like social security. Glad I;ll be dead by then.

Pretty much, yeah. It's easier for companies to be protected than individuals. Around here there was a big stink a few years back, an educational plan company folded up and declared bankruptcy. It ruined many families. Lots of kids had to drop out of school, or lost their best chance to go to college. Of course, the folks who owned the bankrupt company are still filthy rich themselves, and have dozens other companies and assets worth millions. But by law they only had to do the barest minimum as recompense for the parents who scrimped and saved for the plans.
