Tomorrow around noon, or before, Roy Hobbs will receive an
official letter from the Pen's head administrator ( hence-
forth= HA) outlining the withdrawal procedure should the
troubled poet decide to leave the Pig Pen.
The letter will outline the withdrawal procedures according
to the provisions and by-laws set forth by the HA upon incep-
tion of the Pig Pen sometime ago. the HA said he would not
provide other details of the letter, but agreed to comment
on what Hobb's next step might be.
"Well," said the HA, " Hobbs said he is interested in resur-
recting his defunct forum, Searching for Veronique, and to
do so would take, Hobbs said-- 'all the time I have alloted for
poetry fooling around. Yes, I fool around here at the Pig, but
my fooling around is another writer's straight-ass serious in-
tent. I know how to be serious fooling around-- and now it's
time for me to go back to looking for Veronique, and finding
out where she is--
that's what looking for something or someone means-- finding
out where the thing or person you're looking for IS.. And if
I want to do that like a professional would, I might have to
leave the Pig Pen.'
But Hobbs said he didn't know if the time was right to leave.
'The forum is in terrible shape. The HA can't handle the du-
ties of moderator due to his legal troubles with the Peruvian
government, as we all know, or heard about.
I've tried to help by posting and commenting on poetry, but
it's a no-win deal for me.' "
The HA looked tired and beat when asked about the chance
Hobbs might leave. "I certainly appreciate all that Roy has
done to keep this forum solvent, but I know how he wants to
get his old forum back up and running, and maybe even find
that woman he's been searching for for two years-- the woman
who sat in his lap one minute and disappeared the next.
I know all about it, all that happened, and what might hap-
pen, but I ain't saying nothin."
