the rhetorical qquestion is;

what happens when reach the point where we have too many people and not enough real estate or food. while we can make crops produce more and do lots of other stuff should we try it will eventually happen.

the real question is this. how would you solve the problem, could you agree to wiping out a half or even 4 fifths of the worlds population in order to start over? what would your solution to such a crises be?

In a scenario like that you don't even have to actively wipe people out... many will die from famine and nothing can be done to help them.

If we're coming up with solutions for before we reach that point, I have no idea what's best. We may need to seriously consider moving off-world.
PS. If you can, try your hand at giving some of the others a bit of feedback. If you already have, thanks, can you do some more?

yes but will enough die to stop the planet dying enough
so we can feed ourselves, already fish stocks
are being decimated and land is becoming infertile
