(content warning) Blue Movie

The director mentions Miami.
Though the corridor he's filming in
could be from anywhere.
His tattooed arm enters the shot
like a snake from a wicker basket,
that tedious North American voice
somehow excited and jaded at once.
He is utterly devoid of technique.
I suspect he shoots on scorching days,
on roofs and in rooms with big windows,
so he doesn't have to pay for lighting.
I've heard his voice and seen his arm,
where only the tips of his fingers are
spared the intricate yet vague designs,
a thousand times in these movies,
without ever a hint of face or torso,
as if Dr. Claw had taken up porn.
The effect this has on me is strange.
It's like if Kubrick left the cameras on
while he examined Kidman's breasts,
or asked if Cruise needed fluffing,
then kept this footage in the final cut.
Not that porn needs continuity
(any story would detract from the sex)
but when I see his tattooed arm,
and hear that flat Miami voice,
it serves as a needless reminder,
Hitchcock standing before the shower,
while Marion screams pointlessly,
to tell us that we're entertained
by a gruesome massacre.

i loved the hitchcock ending and the kubrik section, but i'm a bit confused. is it about a movie or about a movie being made. while i like the poem, i'm struggling to reconcile it to the title.
i'll come back later when my head is a little clearer. some great lines in the latter half.

The poem is about the narrator watching a pornographic film. Sorry I should have made that clearer. I was so intent on not mentioning bum sex that I obscured the narrativeHysterical

His tattooed arm enters the shot i love this line
as he tells the actors what to do, for me it feels weak,
that tedious North American voice
somehow excited and jaded at once.
He is utterly devoid of technique. nothing but narrative but it lays easy on the reader

Not that porn needs continuity i can see this about porn but i still think a title change would help the reader a lot, as it is it feels a little misleading

some great lines nearer the end. specially the kidman, cruise and hitchcock. the hitchcock one actually placed an image of his great rotundity in my mind hehe.
as i said in the body of the text, its almost all narrative, but its that good narrative
thats able to pull the reader in. near the end we get a few similes which show that its a bit more than just narrative poem. nicely done and thanks for the read.

almost forgot; now i know it about porn and not mainstream movies, you hit the genre spot on with the narrative. the bad production, the stiffness of it (excuse the pun)
the tattooed arm was a great image to use to show that really it's not the direction that matters when it comes to porn,

Thanks for the feedback and kind words Billy. My original title was just "Blue Movie", so I think I'll change it to that. Instead of "as he tells the actors what to do" would "as he feeds the actors their love play" be a stronger line? I'll make the other change you recommended in a mo.

i think the title change would work,
what would a would be director do?

i think; as he feeds the actors their love play

gives too much away and feels a bit long

What if I deleted it altogether? I don't think it would hurt the continuity.

then you'd after alter the line above, how about something along the lines of;

His tattooed arm enters the shot for me this is a mega line that shouldn't be changed
like some exotic snake charmer

Yeah that would work. I like the simile. I'll change it now.
