The Picture
#1
I saw the picture
through a window
in my father’s breast.

It hung on his heart
like a diploma.

It showed a farmhouse
on fire, with melting
mannequins inside,
and people outside
smiling.

All of them women.

What do they see
that I don’t?

I wanted to write something concise yet esoteric, hence this poem. Thanks for your kind words, Billy; "Edar Allan Poe-ish" is a huge compliment!Smile

Chilling and entrancing and wonderfully strange. It should be horrific, and the fact that you can't hear anyone screaming (metaphorically speaking) makes it somehow better and worse for me. Wow Smile
PS. If you can, try your hand at giving some of the others a bit of feedback. If you already have, thanks, can you do some more?

Thank you very much AddySmile Your praise has really made my day! I wasn't quite sure how this piece would be received, if people would like the strangeness you mention, so that you found it wonderful eases me no end.
