I recently watched a documentary that frankly, scared me.

It's about a gymnastics training center. Not only are the coaches mean, but their parents are horrible! It's really sickening how these parents live their dreams through their kids. I see this a lot. In my dance class this woman yelled at her 4 year old daughter for not lifting her leg right.

I think its disgusting how they treat their kids, though many parents have been like that since time immemorial. Heck, the "dad who calls his son sissy/quitter for not being in a sports team " has become a tired cultural cliche.
They're so obsessed that they lose any perspective on what they're actually making their kids do, even though their kids "love it". How else do you explain those creepy child beauty pageants where five-year-olds are caked in thick makeup and where they strut and do sexy dances for an adult audience? *shudder*
Of course parents should be supportive of their kids' endeavors, but "being supportive" doesn't mean negligence and abuse.

i think there's a line between doing it for the child in order to help them grow and doing it in order to live and succeed through them. i hate the beauty pageants you mention though my youngest daughter was once a rose queen at a local carnival (it was her request to enter. i think my two girls tried everything out there from dance to music to martial arts. now it's the grand kids turn though i don't play a part. they have one class each they are told they must attend. nothing is expected of them though you can see they both love doing what they do.
the way they act in the video is unconscionable. if i saw any teacher behaving like that with my child i'd have gone ballistic.
i saw a Chinese docu where the teachers were basically torturing the children. it was barbaric.

Yeah, in China its especially horrible because the teachers are doing it to legions of kids, and the parents are more than happy to let them do it.

i think the parents need a good effin slap round the head.
