it evolves. who knows when sentience begins.
it could arguably get it from logic. ie, we're killing the planet, therefore we're killing ourselves.
keep the human race to an optimum level so that they won't die out and won't kill the planet.
specially if humans give it instructions to do what's best for us.

how is following our instructions ambition. the sentient part would be following them in a way it would think most suitable in the most logical way.
the thing is where did we get ambition from? who's to say if we create an artificial intelligence of sufficient quality it to wouldn't get ambition.

we can already do that sj. just look at climate models, problem solving etc.
at present we have the final say, what happens when and if we decide to hand that over to the machine.
