wouldn't the presumption be the preservation of the human race?
if so, it may not see us as rats but it may decide that 3 to 4 million is an optimum number in which case we may as well be rats ![]()

09-04-2010, 08:57 AM
it evolves. who knows when sentience begins.
it could arguably get it from logic. ie, we're killing the planet, therefore we're killing ourselves. keep the human race to an optimum level so that they won't die out and won't kill the planet. specially if humans give it instructions to do what's best for us.
09-04-2010, 09:10 AM
Yes, but ambition doesn't evolve from logic. It more likely would note that we're killing the planet and ourselves and stow the information away until someone asks for it. Perhaps if humans are smart enough to build it they also know enough to have it suggest what's best.
09-04-2010, 10:49 AM
let it suggest what is best, give a time table, then act when it deems it might otherwise be too late

09-04-2010, 02:16 PM
Don't hand it over.
09-04-2010, 02:48 PM
hand it over, let it come to the logical conclusion and then act

Aw, you just want to be taken over by skynet.

he has a lot of cycling to do to cover the whole world.
somehow after seeing that it' seems hard to bring myself to think computers will ever become autonomous, can't reaaly see a terminator riding one of those. still, at the back of the mind we must think it possible that if we survive everything else, our children great grandchildren could be be living side by side under the umbrella of a globally sentient computer program. (okay, the back of my mind)
