Should humour be banned?

The Germans are famously if stereotypically unfunny. And I’ve never seen a Chinaman laugh at a joke that wasn’t in Chinese.
Both races are industrious, while the English have been failing since the first quarter of the twentieth century, when literacy became widespread. Because people started spending too much time thinking of the perfect repartee to actually stoke the boilers and send their children down the mines.

The Americans have no sense of humour, and are hard working to a fault, like Trump, who tweets at all hours of the day. And they have been rewarded for it with oil in Texas and Canada.

So in order to preserve civilisation, nothing funny should be allowed, on pain of death, also known as a Walmart loaf.

If people couldn't laugh at the human condition they wouldn't need the death punishment, they'd kill themselves off on their own. Might reduce the population enough to save the earth.

Well, there are two kinds of humor - cruel humor (A invites B to laugh with A about C) and self-deprecating or Jewish humor (A invites B and C to laugh at A).  The second kind is defensive while the first is offensive... but only in the military, not necessarily the etiquette sense.

Which kind is funnier?  Jewish humor is safer, so listeners may laugh more easily - cruel humor could be directed at them next.  But cruel humor seizes the initial sense of being attacked (didn't see that coming) and redirects it to the victim, so is more intense.

Should either be banned?  Only if the victims are allowed to hold (or act out) a grudge beyond retaliatory humor.  But that's a male view,  the female character feels real pain from mental anguish and hasn't had that pathway cauterized in youth.

Don't throw shoes, folks, you're a tough crowd already!
