Babies
It’s my birthday today.
And I was a baby once,
and my father was a baby:
I’ve seen old pictures to prove it.
All the sons
of Shah Jehan were babies once
at some point,
before Newton was anointed
king, or Einstein was alive,
or Chuck Norris, the Famous Five -
a cultural moonscape. What a dive.
Even they had parents, right up to
a synapsid in the Permian muck.
They all had luck,
being born - also those dead from rabies.
It doesn’t end, this long descent
from babies.
