Normal Weather

It's hard to remember the pain
my last moments one home ago.
People say healing is linear
ponder the same for shame.

Time distorts past wounds.
Everything hurt before exile.
Young are always moving
old souls stay and remain.

Harsh winds against nearby leafs
sound like waves on the beach.
Maintenance of the mind
is not for the adventurous.

Watching yourself sitting down
judging only for a moment.
Things are the way seem
shaming myself for imagining.

Waking up remembering why
yourself is an afterthought.
Regretting the mistakes made
the mentality of being sane.

There are one or two word and grammar choices I might mention in critique, but on the whole this is good.

The last stanza is the best (envy:  mine always seem rushed and get-it-over-with).  Self as an afterthought is excellent, regret and shelf-judgment (shame mentioned twice, previously) the mark or price of sanity.  The mad have no regrets though shame sometimes drives them; more of an excuse, really.  And though self-judgment may be pretended for sympathy, the real thing makes a real person... not blameless, but not full of blame for others.

Thought-provoking, yes.

Thanks aton Duke I love what you got out of the poem. I feel like I been a little self critical with how niche my recent poems have been. Perhaps a little too personal making a lot of what I write hard to relate too.

It was refreshing to hear your thoughts.
