Things That Go Bump in Broad Daylight
the cats
the fridge
a hungry baby two doors down
a pigeon's coos and grunts
the text not returned
the unfilled prescription
another unknown number
calling twice

A nice list poem that doesn't read like a list

The Ghosts of Sex
Loins of glass
show traces of lightning spreading
outward into fingertips and toes
ghosts of embrace and climax
a geography of lost delights
mapped by an impassive brain
across an excess of time.
Each ghost is its own beast
alone in a crystal jungle of unforgotten bliss
trapped in a sacrificial mirror
where ritual writhing
brought rain from a sky of remorseless bodies
to quench heartbeats for a instant
leaving behind in a flash a fleshless entity.
They haunt each other
believing only in a naked memory
where once they were one, forever
able to cast aside distance and harm
to drown mortal night
in a harried new dawn
that was their beginning.

My doctor bought a stethoscope and coat
for two bucks at Dollarama
on October twenty seventh
nineteen ninety six.
He started his practice four days later
at a friends party in the mountains,
espousing the virtues of frequent breast exams
and prescribing chemicals for malaise
to the zombies and ghouls.
As I had no family doctor at the time,
I sought his counsel on modern alternatives
to the peg leg and eye patch
I earned at the hands of Tortuga Jake
aboard the Golden Eel.
His advice was simple: after enough drink,
one eye and one leg work better than two.

Hallowe’en Logic
Saw a humorous display
in a neighbor’s yard:
pirate ship (inflatable)
crewed by skeletons and sporting
a traditional black banner...
Could not help ruminating–
should their flag not have
skull and crossed thigh-bones
with, like, the skin still on?

The Pop-In
it's 3:24 am;
my bladder
a millstone
to sleep
you're sitting
on the edge
of my bed
with that smug grin
only exhaustion
could make me believe
you are real
but the alarm is imminent
and you never entirely fuck off

Secretly, I wouldn’t mind a ghost or two.
I have so many questions about death and beyond.
Though, it occurs to me now that they might not know.
They’re stuck halfway in between two worlds,
neither caterpillar nor moth, just goo.

Any Kind of Fun, Just Fun
~a found poem
Under the ground,
vicious is a good word for me.
Under the ground,
I'm good at fighting. I can beat
you fucking bad and won't be found.
Today, where would you like to be?
"Under the ground."

Troll
Trollalala eat some rocks for breakfast
wait under the bridge for someone to pester
Trollalalala
Always sing with your mouth full of food.
A good little troll must never be rude.
(stop for laughter)
Trollalalla
The bones we like best are the little ones
kittens and quail and children’s toes
Trollalala
We sing through the night and stay out of sight
our gravelly voices cause chaos and fright
Trollalala
We like to be your worst surprise
but we’ll call it a night before the sunrise
Trolllalala
Troll La
Troll
And something about rocks …

Preds
in a time when any conceivable fetish
demands shelter from those outside the know
you never meet a maid
with a thing for trolls
the way they might for lions or horses
dark corners are dark corners
make yourself comfortable
we remain intact

Our Generation Needed the Fear Dead
We had become too sensitive, so they said, for this kind of thing;
strong, simply being what we are, call us Mary Sue, we
came together and destroyed that horror
which they said could never die.
The hearts of the season came together, one witchcraft
beyond irony, and crushed the phantom Shape to
the toxic slush that it belongs.
We killed him.
Fear is over.
Halloween ends.

internet goblins
with no buzz
except to be a fly

outraged
for the sheer fun
of outrage
at anything
at anyone
nothing to offer
except to differ

with any one
looking for any way
not to pull
their weight
not to pull
that trigger
