My Families Angels

My Families Angels

When I think memories,
it's rare that my victories stand out.

Instead I remember a boy hearing
his fathers fears, a sister bleeding,
a president taking away help.

I think of my father as strong yet scarred.
Not by an enemy or anything so obvious.

Invisible wounds seeing
death, addiction, faith, recovery
caused by pain, stamped by policy.

I remember stories of a sister, a mother
who silently suffered delusions.
Like I have a few times before.

My aunt,
I wonder what you would have told me.

Sometimes I think heaven is real
She is beautiful, and proud.

When I think memories,
they're often so unclear.

Experiences medication unveils,
typically things I fear

Here am I as if Aunt before.
A judge hears my case, says I'm disabled,
security shows me door.

Water streams down my eyes driving home,
Reflecting on what my father said.

"He'd rather take his life than struggle in solitude."

The judge deemed I could be a janitor
Or something of that sort.
We might help,
If you appeal to the court.

Strange how scars and memories
make us who we are.

Now I'm a man carrying
invisible scars.

Speaking out for my families angels.

This is powerful stuff, Bunx.  I like the title change, though reading it closely, I now get the former title.

Reagan Wounds referred to a Regan era policy that kicked aton of disabled folks off Medicaid.
This is a true story poem I recently heard that detail were basically my Aunt was a single mother of 3 who also
Shared my diagnosis. Basically I heard she a great mother but the stress of working and being a mother
Was too much for her mental health.

I feel like putting these stories that reflect social policies are relevant kind of a way of advocating
