Stop Standing On My Brain Haemorrhage—Impossible Tales Of Implausible Children
Midday pours a shot of midnight
where vampires eat spiders and lovers drink delight
and two witches duel with bows and arrows outside
one hunts in disgust
and the other tries to escape the birds in Hell
with knives and machetes and machines that kill
and torture people butchered by languages not their own
—or anyone else’s—
forgotten in a hole pressed close to her lips
and rambling
begging to be saved from the monsters at home
come back from the dead
back from the city
back from the hill they died on
and she opened up to a shrink and a textbook nested in an anagram
in a hologram
in a telegram, Sam
into the drink she went
then up the lift that invests in a universe
before the lights go out
but I can still see the beginnings of a fire
where the grass prays and the earth sways and angels explode
like atomic bombs
and gossip struggles past culture
elbows its way into our nightmares
but doesn’t pay or ask for permission
but stops
backs up
and fights with animals for food and a place to stay
before what is lost is now
and always here.
