On the Science Channel

I was watching a video
of a robot performing
surgery on a grape

asking what new wonder
might fuck me out of a job
or yank me from death
whether I welcomed it or not

asking what new wonder
might keep us connected
at a distance we cannot fathom

might sever us from our own skin
and trick us out of ever being touched again.

Oh!  So that's how they make seedless grapes...

It's a conundrum, certainly:  we're not there yet, but who knows how soon the last person to die will do it and some of us now living will be left out?  Or in, that is, still alive in some sense? Living in, not on, the Cloud sounds more like Hell than Heaven, but it's the natural outcome of the Hippocratic Oath.  How many will become insane during the crude, early stages of physical eternity, then forced to live on that way forever?

Unless they could be edited... a very dark Cloud, indeed.

Thought-provoking, and nicely put.

Well well well-

That last line was worth the price of admission:
and trick us out of ever being touched again.

Somehow reminded me of the Stanley Kunitz poem called Touch Me.
Thanks for that,
Mark
