it's more the imposition of changing travel planes that are the problem.

the overland systems are quite capable of dealing with the extra volume but the travelers aren't prepared to pay the extra cost.

sometimes panic is the best thing to do in order to survive. it's why it's an instinctive reaction.

i think its still early days for the gov etc to know exactly what steps to take.

i say err on the side of safety and listen to the airlines, while making sure the airlines if they fly are positive it's safe to do so and in doing so accept all responsibilities. same with passengers. tell them they fly wit any given airline at there own risk etc.

the airlines nore the passangers can have it both ways.

normally yes but it wouldn't surprise me if payments for delays due to volcanic activity will not be covered has been written into many of the airlines insurance policies.

in fairness. the volcao hasn't really stopped smoking so anyone traveling over europe should beware and expect delays, or use alternative travel. not to do so would be foolish.

Europe has good intercity passenger rail service.
Ride the rails, and stay away from airports.

i agree. if you've got the time overland is always the best way to travel.

i think they took the right decisions when they stopped flying after i saw the footage in the docu about the plane that flew through that ashplume over indonesia,scary,can't take any risk

same here. i think lives are much more important than profits.

i saw a pic of an airforce plane (can't remember where )
and the inside of the jet was encrusted with glass. they said if it hadn't of landed when it did, it would have have fell out of the sky.
