     they're shipping back 
     box after box of it
     
     too much
     
     there's too much 
     on the market
     
     and nothing
     
     just nothing 
     
     to use it for

Comment made elsewhere but pasted here for grins:

It seems to me that the 'beauty' in poetry is the same 'beauty' that's
found everywhere else. And, as the first poem said, beauty is evoked
by something you liked for a specific reason (or your parents or
society or evolution did and you learned it from them/it/it). Later,
having forgotten the reason (or having never known it), you are left
with just the feeling. (Like learning to catch a ball, after a while you
don't have to think about it.)

Beauty is probably a positive motivator like the taste 'sweet', and like
the negative 'pain' and taste 'bitter'. We evolved to be able to feel it
because it helped us survive.

A fav of mine is Cabbage and Bacon Pie.

There's this Salvadoran bakery around here that makes all kinds
of pupusas (cornmeal covered savory pies). They have this pork
and plantain (cooking banana) one that is just incredible. They
also have a tripe (cow's stomach), hot(very) pepper, and yucca
root one. It's not that bad.

A dog that rots in some back alley may
have been a staunch defender of its mate
and fallen foul of prejudice and hate
of doggy style -- but now it's one less stray.
And Candy Sue, whose fishnet buttocks sway
with practised ease to bid you conjugate,
poor lonely nerd so grossly overweight,
there's beauty in her bosomly display.

Though some may see the filth and curse the flies,
it's memory that rests in city tips
awaiting its compaction, or the fire;
just tilt your head a bit and squint your eyes
to see beyond the dark of the eclipse
and find the sun just waiting to inspire.

Such impeccably crafted rotten doggerel!

I felt at least two jabs of beauty as I read it.

The mark of a master is in not just getting the
rhyme and rhythm right; but in not being willing to
compromise the content as well. Willing... no, it's
obviously an involuntary compulsion on your part,
there's not a wit of free will involved. BUT: That
does NOT diminish your accomplishment in my eyes.

What else are you gonna do with it?
