Dearest milo, a modest proposal: "Pigpen Write of Fall"
#1
Dearest milo,

I missed out on NaPM 2016 and am despondent.  I'm not sure I can last until next April.
What would you think of shepherding a fall echo, a tiny antipode, a little something to warm
our blood, keep ourselves in training?  How does "Pigpen Write of Fall" (PWoF") sound?
Its starting day would be the Autumnal equinox: Thursday, September 22 (Vernal equinox
for you Aussies).  It could work the same way that NaPM does, only for 10 days instead of 31.
What do you think?

May your doom be mild, and your treasure remain,
Ray

But "Pigpen Write of Fall" being a pun referencing the rites of Fall that are celebrated
on the day of the Autumnal equinox seems too good to pass up. (Even though I do like the,
if negative, idea of the willingness, the freedom referenced, by the possibility of taking a fall.
Adding "2016" is a good idea as it eliminates further confusion should this become a tradition.

And maybe the first topic could be a poem about autumn or, even more specifically, about the rites of Fall.

We missed you too, I had to extinguish members' glimmers of hope that you'd pop in. Hoping to read a new poem or two when you're ready. Smile

Aww, you're too kind.

To much information / I need therapy:
Lord knows I have a few zillion stored up (unfortunately, they're all first drafts
in need of the usual few weeks of editing [because I wait a week between edits]. So many (I use them as therapy)
because of the stress of having to deal with all the arrogant toadies (note the inherent contradiction) of the visual
arts establishment (especially the god damn museums and archives). Vile group; makes me thankful for the saving
grace afforded by poetry's utter lack of monetary value -- necessarily written for the sheer fucking love of it.

In Australia, this week is National Literacy & Numeracy Week, and next week, Sept 3-11, is National Poetic Licence Week, so every day for the next two weeks we're reading, writing and workshopping a poem of a different form in class. Then they're going up all over the institute, being handed out randomly to passing members of staff, being written in chalk on the footpaths, whatever, as part of the Poem In Your Pocket initiative. You can find details here if you're interested.

Instead of a concerted programme of writing here, which takes quite a lot of time and effort and frankly, once a year is more than enough, may I humbly suggest you all become guerrilla poets in the real world? Do letterbox drops, stick poems inside books at the library, spread the love.

For poetry to reach more people, we can't just be sitting here relying on people somehow stumbling across our lovely little workshop. Real world, people. Infect it.
It could be worse

I like the idea well enough and I am a firm believer that you should do what you can to be happy. Unfortunately, I most likely will not participate so might I suggest you become the arbiter of fall as I have been of spring.

On a completely unrelated topic, I came home to 2 toads fucking on my porch and thought of you. I snapped a quick picture and hope to post the toad pornography for your benefit post haste.

Ever your humble servant,

milo

Hmm... I was hoping I'd had a good idea that involved zero work on my part.
Batting zero. Truth is: I don't have the attention span to pull it off; and I still owe
my sister a bunch of art working. But: Let me assure you that I'm absolutely intent on
procrastinating this. Yes, next year, that's the ticket!

Maybe a zealous PigPenner will read this and decide to engage in a little windmill tilting?

But thanks for considering it.

Contemporaneously humble in all ways,
Ray

I once slipped a few of my chapbooks onto one of my local library's shelves.
They were placed alphabetically, little check-out slips carefully pasted inside,
and I even placed index cards (this dates me, doesn't it) in the library's index.
Over the years I kept track. They were never found and removed...
and they were never checked out either. Another good idea gone bad. Smile

Ooo, I like the sidewalk chalk idea. I once had my poetry "class" (thoroughly
unprofessional and unaccredited library thing held in what amounted to a
book storeroom -- we had a tiny library in those days) write poems on
balloons and release them. Smile

@milo: I'll see your toads and raise you turtles:

P.S. I innocently googled "youtube turtles having sex"  hoping to find a video...
there were 23... good old youtube.

I love the poems on balloons idea. I've done some haiku graffiti - a stencil of three lines, and a spray can. Smile I write haiku in the sand at low tide with s tick too.

You can buy paint that is visible only when wet, and write on footpaths.

        Yippee !!!
We are if you want to do 75% of it.
But I'll help, honest, at least 25%.

This is from  Poetry Forum > Milo's forum > NaPM April 15 2016
-----------------------------------
" Rules: Write a poem for national poetry month on the topic or form described. Each poem should appear as a separate
reply to this thread. The goal is to, at the end of the month have written 30 poems for National Poetry Month.

Topic 15: Today is poet's choice day!!  Write a poem inspired by whatever inspires you.
Form : any
Line requirements: 8 lines or more
"
------------------------------------
So... something like that only with 10 poems instead of 30.
We can do it in Misc. Poetry, if we go with 10 poems, it will only take 11 threads.
PM me and we can discuss it.
Ray

Anyone that's interested in participating should PM eric_never (or, as a backup, rayheinrich)

The first thing that needs to be done is select ten topics. Anyone who has a possible one should... wait for it... PM eric_never. Smile

Cool, now we have someone to shore up the top end of our quality scale.
I am committed, by the way, to having a WIDE scale. This ain't no contest, it's about
thinking through your own writing, learning to exercise your very own creative side
and ignore you're overly picky one.
(Every writer could stand a bit more of that.)

You're always exempt... not from PeeWooF, of course, that's obligatory.

P.S. I never knew you typed with you elbows and heels. That explains a lot.

But Eric, you're not off the hook.  I still need you to think up topics and, of course,
be a steadfast participant.
