Etymology of Iris
from iris, iridos, meaning the flower, the rainbow, and with certain sources including wire in the lineage,
three things lately I find under my feet
from the Greek, and from thence of uncertain origins,
like you, out of the blue
came to describe the colored part of the eye in the 15th century,
the sweetest part, and yours sweetest of all
in classic texts, always signifying divinity, as sure proof that Heaven had a will and that its will was being enacted,
so much like you, dear. so much.
