You're a scientist?

Yes, I am. I do research and development in the field of Virology.

I would think this is the opposite case - you are not actually doing anything nice for any person and you are doing it with full credit. Paid even.

Wont come to pass until December, but I suppose it would qualify. Independently releasing a compilation CD and using 100% of the profit to buy Christmas presents for kids of CASA

I put the toilet seats down in women's restrooms when I get fugged up and go in the wrong door. Otherwise I never do anything nice for anyone without their knowledge since someone whose opinion I respect told me it was weird to do such things for people.

She's an old lady. Who's going to do it for her? I figure I saved her about an hour of back breaking labor. BTW, I'm a woman. I can see how it might come across as creepy if you thought I was a dude.
it does seem a little self important - generally i mean, the wish to do something without other people knowing.

but i guess she might have refused if you had asked her.

I would think that feeling better after doing things for other people is just a wonderful side effect. It's not a means to make yourself feel better than others--that's absolutely disgusting, dude.
I'll be there in a minute.

wat?

i think it's preferable to feeling "better than others" cos you're mean, or prettier. but anyway my self esteem actually comes from always being right haha.

unless you mean it's disgusting to say that unrewarded acts of kindness can be self important... they can, as already demonstrated quite well by bedsidefungus, be creepy tho.

The nicest thing I have done and could ever have done for someone is completely ignore them. There are some people whom I wish would do the same for me.

Exactly the point that I was making milo. This thread stirs up the ancient philosphical debate over whether or not there is such a thing as a selfless act.

Yep, it's brilliant how doing good makes us feel good. Now if only everyone had the same definition of good it might be a different world.

Well, the thread's not about all the bad things I've done. Big Grin
