The Latest Halloween
#1
.

Twilight time, the ghouls unleashed,
like dark Santa's in reverse,
to each house they drag their bags,
saying lines so oft rehearsed.

'Trick-or-Treat' means give me candy,
with each assault upon the doors,
flying like a pack of witches,
greedy to collect still more.

Sugar coma, the mighty fall,
still no worse than I have seen,
just the signal that we're through,
with this latest Halloween!

Love the 'dark Santa's in reverse!' Yes, I get that sugar coma the next week consuming what the little ghouls left behind.

The Santa line and the final stanza we're standouts, Dale.

Fun light-hearted poem! I think ghouls is an appropriate name for the scurrying masses on Halloween.

Just following Chris' suggestion. Thanks.

Thanks Todd, I can see you have also been on a few candy runs on Halloween. My youngest is eleven, so just about at an end. I get why my parents enjoyed staying home so much and just handing out candy. Halloween has always been my favorite holiday, but this is the first time I have written a poem about it.

The dark Santa's in reverse line was also the one that stood out by far to me. It was a great visual and I also especially liked how it refereed to a different holiday. I think that knowing that Halloween is your favorite holiday and that this is your first time writing a poem about it, I encourage you to write more about it! This poem seemed to be your parent perspective, I would love to hear about your experience as the child growing up and what this holiday meant to you then. Smile

We love it too Dale. My wife and I dress up to give out candy, while we enjoy assorted hors d'oeuvres and cocktails.

Thanks Malu,

Strangely, Christmas is the holiday I write about most, for me anyway, much more fodder for the cannon. That and a happy, jaunty poem is almost atypical for me. Halloween for me as a child was fun, but in a cliche type of way, I'm afraid not much to wrap a poem around. I enjoyed the creative side of Halloween, creating the costume (we didn't buy them from stores), or haunted houses. I guess I always enjoyed creating the things that people liked to experience, rather than experiencing things others had created.

I'm a kind of a, drink hot chocolate and eat my own candy kind of guy Smile

Santa had a little dark helper in his good old, literal days.

Santa was much more sinister in the old days. Didn't he also stop and beat the bad children?

I'll ask my mama, I think she was alive back then. She looks it.

Po Po Mama, but I also look like that and it is way before my time...unless she's over 400 years old.
