NaPM Read this

April is NaPM in the states (probably the month of searching for clean drinking water and dreaming about electricity where you are from). In honor of this we are running a NaPM event. The rules are simple, we try to write a poem for each day of April. To enable the process, a topic will be posted daily in a thread with the date in this forum.

FAQ:

I wasn't here for the beginning can I still participate?
Yes, jump in at any time. If you feel up to it, go back to the earlier threads and see if you can write a poem for those days as well, but it is ok to start whenever you wish.

I don't want to write a poem for every day, but I would like to participate in some of the topics, is this ok? Yes, feel free to participate in any of the topics. Ideally, if you can produce a poem for each day that is best, but not required.

I missed a day, can I go back and make it up? Yes, the threads are left open and unlocked.

I am a newer writer will the quality of my writing be up to par? NaPM is "crit-free", more a celebration of poetry than anything and all are welcome. Poems should still be edited and you should try to produce work to the best quality of your skill level.

What is up with these topics? Can't I just write about flowers and birds? Topics sometimes push people out of their comfort zones, inspire new ideas or get people to look at poetry in a different way. Feel free to write about whatever you wish.

I read something I like, is it still ok to comment? Yes, it can be trying to write a poem a day everyday and many suffer from "writer's fatigue" around day ten. A little encouragement goes a long way.

Go on, jump right in there and have some fun!!

It's over.

Thank you very much for doing this NaPM thing, Milo. The prompts worked well for me and I've enjoyed the process a great deal.

I, too, had a lot of fun. I do have another idea but I think we should give people a couple days to either rest or maybe fill in any threads they just couldn't get to. I know I missed around 8 threads myself and I would like to take a crack at a couple more before I completely give up.

Thanks for the participation everyone!

It was fun Milo. I think I got them all...some by will alone. I appreciate you organizing this.

Hello Milo, thanks for leading me here. I missed the entire month of April on this but today, May 7, is my birthday, so will work as a good day to start, perhaps. If the Muse is with me.

Happy birthday, Will, I hope you can hit at least a couple of them, I am still fueling up to fill in my own 'missing links'

I have my first coffee with me, Milo, and I'm planning to hit at least one of the prompts today, time and inspiration willing.

As you know, I found out about this from the other newsgroup while enjoying some of your reposted efforts, and am starting a quickie thread linking to here, there.

Who knows, maybe even Punch and Judy will join us..?

Hello Milo... I've been working on the first of these "Prompt Poems" and have taken it through about three re-writes, so I'm posting it here shortly for observation and inspection... it'll be my first poem here, so I'm looking forward to reactions, if any.

Hey, pigsters, two weeks until NaPM 2016. 30 poems in 30 days sparked by the always interesting milo. In past years some have achieved the full 30. Although I am not one of them, it was delightful torture to try.

I hope you all join me in posting the less than perfect poems that can be written in a day and dealt with later. If nothing else it gets the brain and blood flowing.

So, I dare you, each and every one of you. A lot of the fun is reading what other members come up with so without your participation we have nothing. Novice or Pro, we're ready for you.

Double dare you. Big Grin

I cannot stress how much I learned last April. It's much more than just a fun exercise. I promised myself I'd write 30 in 30 even if every one of them turned out to be total crap. Some of them did, maybe most, but I came away with 2 to 5 poems I was really pleased with (and will edit further when their time comes). Especially for my skill level at that time. I am eternally grateful to Milo, Todd, Ray, Ellajam, Dale, Mercedes and everyone else who facilitated and contributed last year. I think Mercedes posted the first poem last year within about 8 minutes of the first prompt. That's when I figured out that terror and inspiration were a perfect mix for me. I finally "got over myself."
Novice or pro, this is a win/win game. Play, play, play.

Reminder: Poets of all levels of experience are welcome, there ain't no judgement In NaPM, and on the days when you just can't do it nobody holds it against you, just try the next one. Every member of the Pen has something to gain by at least trying it. Have the guts to sign up on the NaPM 2016 thread. Yes, I'm talking to YOU!Big Grin

Heh. Well, just now reading this part, but I have to agree with T the L, it's been an awesome learning experience to be among more accomplished poets every day like this. Now we're close to the end of the month I feel my poetry vessel is scraped empty and I may be looking through the holes in the skin to see what I can find outside it, for the last few of these. I know several pieces I posted are far below any reasonable assessment of "good poetry" but I hope each one carries at least a little interest (I did try for that at bare minimum.)

I am not sure I can handle suicide month, not after this, haha.

Still, thanks so much Ella for bringing me over, Billy and Addy for the building and hosting here, Milo for the project and prompts, and everyone who's posted poems for sharing inspiration and giving me raised bars to reach for.

the good thing about NaPM is that you have 30 poems you can workshop 1 at a time Big Grin

And then write a poem about it.
