A Moralist Speaks

'I was minding my own business
a-chomping bacon and eggs.'
' But did you look?'
' I sort of did...'
'You shouldn't; she
Is just nineteen, a kid'
'Only -- --- legs?'
' No -no! Read a book
Instead! Like me!'

' 'But I like her plenty
and in another year,
it would still seem queer
As she will then be twenty!'

Thank you -I had quite forgotten this. No, not me,(perish the thought, to use a good hackneyed phrase Wink) and wife no longer in a position to criticise, being dead. At the time I wrote it, I thought there was something tremendously clever about it, I think the idea that, no matter how many years passed, the gap would always be the same, but it no longer seems as smart . I am glad it gave you a smile, anyway. E Smile

i missed this one abu. UndecidedConfused
what did the dashes represent? ( i did use my own words of course)
i think you can read this in a few way. depending on who the reader sees the 1st person speaking too/with; friend, partner, self, which opens up extra dimensions. it has that great looky no touchy feel and in truth i feel a little guilty reading it because i'm always looking and thinking a similar thing Blush

the dashes could be sw2apped for something of substance but i enjoyed it a lot. sorry for not getting to it till now

There's a nice comic candor to the piece Smile. Some of the punctuation confused me but I liked it for what it is, I liked the directness.
PS. If you can, try your hand at giving some of the others a bit of feedback. If you already have, thanks, can you do some more?

It is just a piece of fun, though I remember feeling slightly dirty, as there is a vague hint of the pervert. You have to imagine that you have come in mid-conversation, with the first speaker already on the defensive. The second speaker cannot be his partner, and in view of the implied age, is unlikely to be a parent. It could therefore be a sensible friend, m or f, or even he could be in some kind of institution, where they are trying to accustom him to ordinary life. Maybe a little more...or not...Wink

It is a conversation. I see that the dashes are a bit muddling: they could just be a single long dash. Thank you for looking, Addy Smile

Yes most of us old pervs do enjoy observing a finely turned ankle, but exercise caution, Kippling issued a caveat of sorts about the fairer members of the species! Big Grin
