a suggestion for the title would be
9/11 vision, are the [for]'s needed in the first section?

Thanks, you're right, using "spectacle" doesn't work. I was using it to connote
"bread-and-circus", but that's not the first meaning that comes to a reader's mind.
I don't like "vision" because it's something that's going to happen as opposed to
something that already has. Looking at the poem again, I think that "pays off"
more accurately portrays it. See what you think.

I got rid of the "for" 's as well, yep, works much better. Yes?

I read that the corporation who had just bought both buildings also bought anti-terrorism insurance, and sued the insurer for two events, so collected something more than $4 billion. Some say 7. http://www.presstv.com/detail/2013/07/15...nce-fraud/

The main profits were made by the military arms and equipment manufacturers
to help the U.S. gear up for the "War On Terror". These weren't just the
increases for additional anti-terror equipment; their lobbyists, helped by
the U.S. congress, were able to reverse some previous military spending
cuts that had been made in weapon systems. Tanks, missiles, advanced fighter
aircraft -- these last were not ground-support aircraft, but advanced supersonic
fighters designed to fight the USSR.

Security/Police equipment manufacturers made windfall profits too, supplying
the needs of municipalities across the U.S. -- small towns in Nebraska
included -- so they could each have their own anti-terror squad complete with
armored vehicles.

It goes on and on...

For these companies, congressman who wanted votes, news agencies who wanted
viewers, etc., fear was their ally and they encouraged it.

We are now in a state of constant war* that can be used as an excuse for
almost anything; especially regressive measures such as spying on U.S. citizens.

The U.S. President now has the power to summarily execute any foreigner or U.S.
citizen without due process and withhold any information regarding it.

* "War is Peace" - A Party slogan from Orwell's novel, 1984 :
"War is Peace: In 1984's society, keeping the masses believing that constant war is being waged
is actually a way of maintaining peace. War elicits great patriotism and devotion to country; it also
promotes sacrifice and giving to the community over oneself. So, if there is constant war, the people
are constantly giving, sacrificing, and pledging devotion to their government. This keeps the people
in check and in control, and hence, peaceful. That is how the Party uses that slogan. The people
think it just means that world peace is maintained through war. Without war, their security would
be threatened."

right, they should provide those services for free. The companies made the profits, sure, but the also created jobs, paid taxes, and reinvested. And, they were paid by the government, so the government was loosing money. Safe to say the U.S., as a whole, has not made any profits from 9/11.

there is a certain irony about complaining about a group "creating fear" while you spout out this nonsense. The fact of the matter is that even if it is technically legal (I'm not sure it is, but I don't know enough about it to debate) it is not practicable. The United states is a huge place, there are very limited resources. There are a lot of criminals, we catch very few of them.

SAUCE PLEASE. (link to the specific law) or, is this just more propaganda to scare the people?

    I think you've succeeded in convincing me that you're a misled conservative;
and I've succeeded in convincing you that I'm a raving liberal.

So we've probably accomplished enough for this thread.

But, if you feel inclined, you could always start a 9/11 thread in the general discussion area.
I'm sure it would be interesting.

It does not seem like enough people realize this... But to your poem... I like how "will" is stressed so hard... And your three profits are true...

Part of the reason they don't realize this is that they've been taught to worship sports.
    They've been taught to root for the "home" team without realizing that someone else owns the team;
and that the owners made them pay for the ticket.  Smile

I like how you look at it... Always love good sports analogies... For I see it as the instant win over and also the fact that society as a whole have been taught to drink the kool-aid and eat the cookies never mind the weird smell and funny aftertaste... Being dumbed down as a nation yet still thinking we know and see all... Sad really...
Hmm three prophets... Or true prophets... It does work for word play... But a prophet speaks for a cause not become the cause... If looking at what or who a prophet in this would be... Would it not be the news (media) being the prophet not as much as the votes, control, money? Those are just the profits from the prophet Wink my limited take on it anyhow Smile hope I do not offend Smile

You're right, they're generalities. Good generalities are 49% lies, and bad ones 51%.
So I certainly shouldn't feed all the news media to the same shark. (And I certainly
wouldn't feed my wife, who's a part of said estate, to any shark. Hopefully, she feels
likewise with respect to moi.) Smile

"hope I do not offend"
Of course not. (Not that I think it's possible to offend me; my subconscious instantly
channels any such emotions directly to cool, logical thinking and/or irrational anger.) Smile

This forum doesn't have sharp teeth; it has soft gummy-bear teeth which, if you ask, will hug you.
(And no, it isn't creepy! A bit warm and very sticky, but not creepy.)

Oh, wow! Hadn't heard that song mentioned in 20? 30? years.
Just had to go and find it... and, of course, someone had uploaded it to youtube:

youtube video with song lyrics below:

Sam Signaoff – Blue Duck Fly To North Country Lyrics:

Blue duck fly to north country
Prophets for profit keep on comin’
Where can one draw the line
To listen

Society has spoken
We’ve all been buying our tokens
To take a slow ride on a brand new train
To nowhere

You’re on the left and he’s on the right
You call each other “pig” and then you get up tight
While all this is going on, the planets they are changing
While you call each other “pig”
There’s little time remaining

Blue duck fly to north country
Prophets for profit keep on comin’
Where can one draw the line
To listen

Tell me about your poor blind boy
How the City Fathers all watched in joy
As he blew his nose on our “Dear Old Glory”
And then they shot him down
‘cause he didn’t have the license to see

Blue duck fly to north country
Prophets for profit keep on coming
Where does one draw the line
To listen

Black man hunched down, make like a mule
Never be free and you can’t go to school
You’re black, so how come you ain’t crawling
Hey boy, don’t you dare look at me when you hear me talking.

Blue duck fly to north country
Prophets for profit keep on comin’
Where does one draw the line
To listen

Everything is formulated
Our existence has been created
To attain a fleeting glimpse of disorder

In order to understand, you destroy
In order to create, you destroy,
‘cause in order to think, one cell destroys the other
Yes, in order for you to exist, you go and shoot down your brothers

Blue duck fly to north country
Prophets for profit keep on comin’
Where does one draw the line
To listen

But to be here ‘cause you’re near
And to be there ‘cause you were
Though the icebergs fall onto the cities
And though the seas take leave to move upon the countries –

Blue duck fly to north country
But before you go, come and tell me
– So we can sing with you
To a new song
a brightly colored fungus that grows in bark inclusions

Interestingly, I think that Signaoff is Canadian, and the "blue duck", as far as I know, only exists in New Zealand... HMMM? I wonder if Sam knew this when he wrote the tune.

Ray, old top, I hate to be negative,

but

Military-industrial complex bad.

Capitalism bad.

Undertakings that run at a loss wonderful.

Politicians bad.

It may be understood on different planes.... but on the surface, do you not think it lacks freshness? A mite Lefty-trite?

I too would like to know the 'sauce' for the President acting like Jihadi John. My grand-daughter is in Texas; I may need to alert her.  Smile
