Hi, all.

John from south Devon - ex North Yorkshire (my old stomping ground is not far from techtak...) Pleased to be here.

Much as I enjoy writing, I've always wanted to get in to poetry a bit more. The stumbling block at the moment is the pre-occupation I see with free verse - almost without exception, I just don't 'get it.' Terribly written pages of gibberish in fancy patterns. But that's what I see. Someone experienced may absolve me of that notion in due course!

I'm hoping to contribute with comment and critique if it'll help others, and apply what I learn to my own beginning work.

Cheers, all.

John

Hey, John, pleased to have you here. Once you've become a full member by offering at least three critiques to others you might be interested in trying some set forms. You'll find them in the Poetry Practice forum. Hope you enjoy the site. Smile

Hello all! I'm not a very good at poetry, but I'm intent on improving! This seems like a lovely forum for doing just that.

Hi, siyanide, and welcome.

Not been long here myself. Plenty to experience and share, and a very satisfying learning curve. Get stuck in.

Hello Everybody!

My name is Turtle and my hobbies include: saving the planet, becoming the strongest version of myself everyday, and stealing kittens from crazy cat ladies. Other than that, I enjoy writing poetry and telling lies.  big hug

I live in Montana and I'm an indigenous man of the Amskapi Pikunni. Writing is a beautiful way of expression. I'm here to share and be shared, and I look forward to getting to know people here.

Welcome Turtle. I'm sure you'll enjoy it here.

How do we know that you aren't telling lies about telling lies? That would make you a lying truthsayer. Smile

Cheers.

New to the forum and looking forward to being able to get some honest feedback from the folks on this forum. As much as I love my wife and family, whenever I have them read my poems, I feel like they just love them and can't give much critical feedback.

My current project (because I need goals in order to keep writing) is a group of poems inspired by films. The first list of films (because I'm all about lists too) is all of the winners for Best Picture since 1929 according to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Thank you in advance for being able to be a part of this community.

Hi, welcome to the pen. Interesting idea, for the film watching and the motivation. Good luck with it, hope you enjoy and make good use of the site.

Welcome, matey. Feedback from family/friends et. al. is a perennial problem. They don't want to offend you. And we all like having our ears tickled. Therein lies the rub.

My experience so far is that other posters will constructively tell it how it is. And that's good.

Cheers.
