There's a multitude of tangential meanings for one to entertain, some more justified than others. That's what makes this piece great: we're not struggling to find meaning, just sifting through tantalizing possibilities.
One opportunity that I did see: I think that "old" is implied because it's the father's lawnmower. You could put that syllable to other use, if you wanted.

If "old" is implied, you're right, I may be able to slip in a more textured modifier. The thing about those old lawnmowers is they worked forever. The new ones are like kitchen appliances and only last a few years. So the lawnmower is as much a perennial miracle as spring itself.

Indeed. I see what you mean, that it's particularly important to make sure that the reader appreciates the reliability of an older machine. I assumed that people would infer this, but it's probably better not to leave that up to chance, in this case.
