"I'm Coming"

Two words that a man loves
to hear his woman say.

Two, six syallable lines, inspired by Paul's short poem "That's What She Said", which got me thinking...

These days you have to say "a woman" rather than "his woman" or the woke mob will assault you for implying said woman is the possession of said man. Of course, that's a lazy layperson's read. A poet reads it differently. In context, "his" conveys an adoration and a sort of bursting pride to be with her, an exclusivity, one flesh. Maybe that's too much to say about a single word in an 11 word poem, but it seems we're slowly losing the language for the sake of signalling virtue. Have a look what happens to your poem if you change "his" to "a." --- Don't you dare.

Oh jeez, we're supposed to be in the fun forum. Figured you'd be good with a short rant.

Well Paul- after so many years together we actually do belong to each other.

As the old song says, “I am yours, you are mine, you are what you are.”

...even before the opera,
taxi waiting outside,
meter running,
and knowing it means
there's still 20 minutes of makeup and shoe choice ahead.

Even then.
