Competitions

I'm thinking of entering some poetry competitions. Does anyone have any experience of entering and maybe winning. What competitions do you know about? Does anyone have any tips?

I found this article to stimulate thoughts/discussion https://9mousai.com/how-to-win-a-poetry-competition/

Look forward to your views

I have experience losing. And not being able to afford the entry fees. I always told myself, though, that if the contest is free there'd be a lot more entries or entrees and so my chances of winning would be a lot less.

Yes that's true but it seems wrong to charge to be in a competition I think

From international olympic competition to small town 5k runs charging participants is common practice.  Entry and submission fees are necessary. If the focus is to serve their needs then they should not charge, (i.e. "The New Colossus") but if they are serving you then it is wrong to think those services should be rendered for free.

They only service you if you win.

for me a pay per poem or entry competition is usually sign of a scam. there are plenty of places you can send your poetry off to free of charge. they publish or the bin it. some will make a small payment for a published poem some do not but most don't charge for the entries.
