I know a guy

I know a guy.

I know a guy on TV,
who made his plea.
To turn the world on it head.

Who let children born on foreign lands,
be ripped from their parents hands.
They'll grow hungry, in a single file line.
Walking through prison, hopeless confines.

I know a guy on TV,
who speaks on behalf of some religion.
Who's got preachers praising politicians.
Parishioners peddling political divisions.

I know a guy on TV,
holding a rally in my state.
Claiming that a generation of victims,
should never speak out against rape.

I know a guy on TV,
who sends men to their death,
for capitalist gains that subjectively
monetarily, maybe make sense?

I know a guy on TV,
who says it is a shame,
that you can't discriminate
for being sick, a woman, trans, or gay.
No wonder im bi, sick, and afraid.

I know a guy on TV,
who will bring a country to its feet.
Shouting for things they use to have.
Rights, Healthcare, Education.

I know a guy on TV,
who wants your right to critique.
Assemble and gather.
He will feed your opinions
to his holy followers,
on a boastful platter.

I know a guy on TV,
taking mountain trails reaching for the sky.
Cutting them up his will, divine.
To line the pockets of the few
with the sacrifices of many.
Here we are, punished to sit and watch.

I know a guy on TV,
to turn us on our heads.
Screaming lies,
with objectifying eyes,
looking at our home,
that is his to roam.
The gospel of hate and fear.
Has never been this cheap.

American life, his to define,
An American dream is his not mine.
Sitting here quivering in hesitation,
making American great again.
His retaliation.

Congratulations on meeting up with the man - I haven't, so I can't honestly say I know him.

Political poetry, and I don't think that that's what this is, exactly, is hard to write. Because it's so easy to write. You have some decent sentiments, but some lines are filler. A lot is filler. . . . It's good for venting your anger and disappointment, fear, but there's little that stands out from the rest of the anti-whicheverpoliticalleader-type poetry.

And good political poetry is possible.

As someone who never writes about politics it is a first. Thanks for the feedback I might try and re word this in a second draft and see what takes shape.

I don't know much about poetry, but I know something about politics.  Trump is America now.  Once upon a time we were the aspirational country.  It tilted that way.  Just barely.  But it did.  I can't say that now.

There's a poem in there somewhere.
You can't hate me more than I hate myself.  I win.

"When the spirit of justice eloped on the wings
Of a quivering vibrato's bittersweet sting."
